New Year Resolves

***We interrupt this bloggy silence to bring you a post***
(I know, I know, I crack myself up. Mark says it's a good thing I'm cracking somebody up.)

The past couple of days I have been thinking about resolutions. I have very rarely followed through on any of my past ones. So, I have decided not to make any (at least publicly anyway). Except for one and I will need your help. I love to sing. Love it. But, I cannot carry a tune at all. And I can't ever remember all the words to the songs. This greatly amuses Mark and he likes nothing better than to come up to me and say, "Hey babe, sing me ________." Because he knows I will never get through the lyrics and he will get a good laugh. I don't necessarily think you have to know the lyrics, you just have to sing it with authority and act like you do. That is my singing philosophy anyway. So, I want to be able to have a complete song in my repertoire. That way, I can pull it out and sing it anytime and anywhere (most likely in the van where I have a captive audience). So... I need you to pick a song for me. There is absolutely nothing redeeming or sanctifying about any of these songs, so just pick one. One that you can imagine me singing to my sweet hubby at night, standing in front of the tv trying to get his attention, and him looking at me strangely, and wondering what has happened to his wife. (Not that this ever happens here already). All I have to say is "Watch out Simon Cowell!

So just leave me a comment telling me which song you think Mark would like the best.
A. The Rose, by Bette Midler
B. Redneck Woman, by Gretchen Wilson
C. 9 to 5, by Dolly Parton
D. Suspicious Minds, by Elvis

These are all songs I have attempted to learn at some time and it still has not happened.

I'll keep you updated on how I'm doing. Because I know you will be on the edge of your seats wondering. :)

  1. I can't decide between The Rose and Suspicious minds. The Rose was the first song I learned to play on the piano and the first one I memorized. But, I LOVE Elvis and you can't go wrong with a classic like Suspicious minds - although I think if you sing an Elvis song you need to learn some good ol' Elvis dance moves, hehehe !
    Love, Kathy

  2. Wendy PLEASE learn 9 to 5. I am laughing just thinking about you singing that. Mark can be the boss, and you can sing it to him like Dolly. Plus, your voices are similar. I am still laughing. :) LOVE YOU!

  3. Wendy - It has to be 9 to 5 by Dolly! You just can't get any better than "Stumble out of bed and tumble in the kitchen, pour myself a cup of ambition - yawn and stretch and try to come alive..." We should get together and listen to it over and over until it's memorized. LOVE IT!

  4. Wendy, I must agree with Kathy. I love the Rose but, Elvis is my all-time fave! Suspicious Minds is my vote.

  5. 9-5 would be great. However, I also suggest "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. A bunch of us learned ALL the words to that on the way home from the beach during our Montevallo days!

  6. This is great! And girl, definitely the 9 to 5 song! I can totally see you singing that in front of your man to get his attention! LOL! Great! I love it!

  7. I am thinking the Redneck song. I've never heard of it, but I think I might could relate. . .

However, I do like Kerrie's recommendation of "I will Survive" and think that might be appropriate!

  8. I vote for Suspicious Minds - it's a fun song! Definitely not Redneck Woman! I dislike Gretchen Wilson as it is, and it makes it even worse that people tell me all the time that I look like her (got one this weekend). I don't appreciate the comparison one bit!

  9. Rachel, I'm not a Gretchen Wilson fan myself, but I think the song is kind of funny and I can relate in a way bc it seems I always have a baby on my hip (which I love). And you don't look a thing like her!
