Tuesday 11 years ago today
This Tuesday, 11 years ago today (that's the way we keep track of time here in the Deep South), I was miserable. I had just endured 7 months of dehydration, nausea beyond belief, and about 2 months of endless contractions. I had been on brethine to stop my contractions since month 5 when my body decided it could not take anymore and it was time to get Little Baby Boy Clark out. But Baby Boy Clark was way too little so I got to endure all the wonderful effects (heavy saracasm) of brethine, which was supposed to hold off the contractions until it was time. Tyler was due May 13 and so I thought I had a couple of more weeks to go. I went to the doctor Tuesday morning for my regular checkup and told me I could stop the brethine and that the baby come anytime now. I was excited, but not hopeful. After all I had been through I was sure nature was playing a terrible joke on me and I would be 2 weeks late. Well, that was not to be the case. I came home and that afternoon was the longest of my life. I was restless and could not wait until Mark got home from work. I walked between the TV (which had 2 channels) and the baby's room about 1,000 times. I rearranged everything in the room over and over. About 8 that night two men from the church we had visited in North Carolina came to see us. I tried to be polite, but all I could think was "Please get out of my house!" If I had known I was in labor it would have been better, but all I could think was "I want to scream at someone and I don't know why." Mark got home about 9:30 that night and we went to bed. I tossed and turned and then the contractions really started. I called the doctor and off to the hospital we went...
