"Uncle"

I am crying "Uncle, Have Mercy, and whatever else it takes"

Last night James started running a low grade fever. I dispense the Tylenol and try not to worry. Try not to worry that I am supposed to help Rebekah feed 400 people Saturday night. And try not to worry I have about 50 people coming here Saturday for the Cub Scout Derby Workshop and Hot Dog Cookout. And try not to worry that my family just got over the flu just two weeks ago and that my kiddos are still coughing from it.

This morning I woke up and he still had a low grade fever. And his eyes looked a little red. And he said his ears were "itching." I do the mommy debate in my head.

"Should I take him in?"

"Should we ride it out?"

"What if I take him and he has nothing and then I have exposed him to all the germs in the doctor's office?"

"I know as soon as I take him in the fever will disappear and I will have wasted a co-pay?"

"What if I don't take him in and then he really does have an ear infection that goes from his ear to his bloodstream and then he has to be in the hospital for a long time and then I will feel like a terrible mom, not to mention my CHILD WILL HAVE A TERRIBLE INFECTION AND I DID NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!"

Friends, sometimes I wonder how I function with all the mommy debates I have in my head.

Anyways, not knowing what to do, I called Super-Wonder-Mom Rebekah, and asked her. On her advice we headed to the doctor.

He has:
1) the flu-Type B-we got to experience Type A last time.
2) strep throat
3 pink eye in both eyes

Joy.

James is a delightful well child and a not-so-delightful sick child. Can you say G.R.O.U.C.H.Y?

If you don't hear from me in awhile its because I have drowned in all the medicine sitting on my kitchen counter right now.

  1. Not again! Good grief! Send the rest of your kiddos to Grandma's house or someplace they won't catch it. God bless y'all!

  2. Oh Sister, that is a sad situation. Do you think he did this so he wouldn't have to come to my house Saturday???? Hmmm....

  4. Poor little guy! Poor MammaHen! I am very thankful for healthy days, especially those that come around events. It's very difficult to be show God the thankfulness when we begin to feel pulled. Hang in there, remember your a Momma first and all those others things next...Start making some phone calls, pray that there is someone out there who can step up and take your place at the events you have planned.

  5. Praying you are all well again soon. I have one down today with a runny nose and I think a low grade fever. I'm going to check here soon and see whether she needs anything. Mostly she is resting and drinking more fluids at this point.

  6. So sorry!! Here I was getting a little tired of the snow/ice. We still have 90% of it left. But at least we aren't sick.

I'll help Rebekah with what you needed to do. Emailing her now.

  7. Your kids know how to do up the whole "sick" experience, don't they?

  8. I'm so sorry your kiddo is sick again. Wishing him a speedy recovery and you a lot of patience dealing with the little grouch... We just found out that 4 of our neighbors (our girls played with them a lot during these last few snow days)have strep. Yep, now I have to be on the lookout for symptoms... Gotta love this time of year...
