A Little Upset

I.AM.FIT.TO.BE. TIED.

If there are any northern readers this means I am more than a little upset about the state of things. Or you could say I am "as mad as a hornet", or "as mad as a wet hen." Any of those would apply. I am not "as mean as a snake" though. I don't think so anyway.

This weekend while camping we picked up some stoneground cornmeal made at the local state park. I have been canning all day, but I put it aside to fix us some fresh veggies for supper. We are having corn on the cob, peas, and green beans, and bbq'd chicken. If you are having peas you have to have cornbread so I got out my cornmeal to make some. I opened up the brand new package (which I was told was "just ground yesterday") and it was full of bugs. BUGS!

So now, no cornbread. Peas without cornbread~a travesty.

  1. You can just pick them out... a few bugs won't hurt anything. That's where the protein is!

Now, there was not way you could pick them out. It was full of them.

  3. You are definately not "mean as a snake" and bugs in your cornmeal makes me want to vomit.

  4. That is a travesty. Brandon would die. He probably wouldn't eat until cornmeal was bought and cornbread was made. He's serious about cornbread. Although, with barbeque chicken? :)
I was wondering if anyone would get the "heroin" mistake!!haha! I had to leave it! It was a good laugh!

  5. Okay, this northerner from NYC would be royally pissed. That's how I express my total frustration!

Yuck. Is all I can say! Glad you found them before you stored the stuff and they escaped!!!

  6. Oh no! For me the issue would be more that I PAID for something that I now couldn't use. How frustrating.

  8. That's disgusting!! I'm so sorry!
I went and bought some vanilla yogurt on Saturday and opened it up Sunday morning, it wasn't vanilla it was PLAIN! Yuck!!! I was so mad and had to cover it in granola and honey!

  9. Oh, no! I'm so sorry. I guess those cornmeal grains were too big to run them through a sifter?

You're all going to think I'm a really awful Southern wife, but my poor, poor husband does not get cornbread very often. His wife, granddaughter of corn farmers on both sides of the family, is allergic! Yes, I'm really, honestly allergic to corn! I would NOT make that up! So we actually eat peas without corn anything all the time.

About now I'm thinking I shouldn't even sign my post but should run ducking instead!

  13. That happened to me with Rice a Roni one time and I was NOT a happy camper. Bryan loves to eat cornbread with black eyed peas and mayo all mixed together. I, myself don't get the whole cornbread and peas thing, jsut give me LOTS of butter
