Dear....

Dear Store that starts with a W and ends with a Mart,

I once really liked you. I liked you when I was a young newlywed and I could spend $30 a week on our groceries (including toiletries) and I got to come home and report to my hardworking man on what amazing deals I had gotten. I liked you when I had a new baby and I could go to your store and buy cheap diapers and wipes and sometimes a cute little shirt that says, "I am cute like my Daddy." I liked you when I had to buy an unbelievable amount of camping supplies for the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Heritage Girls. You even had those little fans you could carry around so that exactly one square inch of you could be cooler in the 100 degree heat.

But now...not so much. As a matter of fact about 6 months ago I decided that I would never ever no-matter-what-may come would I ever darken the door of the particular (insert name of store) in my hometown. And I have kept that promise.

Until today. There was the perfect storm of tennis lessons being cancelled, a free babysitter, and a bad decision (which I blame on the PMS) to go to the dreaded store. I was lured by the siren song of $10 Duplo blocks which would only be on sale today.

You let me down. You did not have the blocks. You did not even have a section in your store for the blocks. You committed the unpardonable by advertising what you could not deliver on. Over and over I have given you one more chance. Now I must take care of myself. I have a husband and four children to think about.

We are done. Don't send your ads to my house anymore. Don't try to lure me with special emails telling wild and sordid tales of sales which don't exist. Don't tempt me with your low prices.

It was good while it lasted. But I lost that lovin feeling a long time ago.

Sincerely,

MamaHen

  1. Oh this sounds familiar! My story with the store of which you do not speak begins and ends much the same way, which is why I gladly pay a few bucks extra and shop at the red store with the bulls eye that is close to my house. It makes me happy.

  2. Sounds like my story with the other mart. (Starts with a K) After several really bad experiences with them I won't even look at their ads anymore, they go straight into the trash. Same with Sears...

  5. Girl, you're right. You just have to take care of yourself. And if there's just something you HAVE to have, let me know and I'll get it for you. Because we all know... if the lovin' feelin' is gone, it's gone for good.

  6. Mama Hen,

Same thing happened here. A particular sandwich maker was advertised for $6. Had plans to buy several for gifts. :( After the second unsuccessful mart visit I called. "They were informed that they would not have the item in." Despite it being advertised in the sale paper.

Just wish we had something other than a mart closer than 30 miles. :(

  7. I am with you.
That store is the pits. It's gray! Gray! Who needs that?
And on top of all you say, that store drove two sewing stores in my area out of business with its stupid craft/fabric section and then, oh yes, it removed its craft/fabric section!!
The laugh's on it, though, because a new JoAnn's just opened that's CLOSER to me than the old one and the bad store (that doesn't have a craft section anyway), so there.

  8. Right there with ya sista. I fell the same way about Michael's. They used to be so wonderful. Now they're one step away from the dollar store. Why do the stores lose their magic. Oh please Lord, don't let it happen to Home Goods. ;) Lisa~

  9. Ditto. I'm done with the 'mart, too. The few things you may (or may not)be able to get aren't worth it!

  10. leila- the Walmart did the same with fabric stores on the other coast- I am so upset! I guess I'll just shop on-line- which is difficult with fabric...

  11. I don't like the W store either, and seriously limit my trips there. Have for years. 20 or so years ago I liked it, but no longer.

  12. My mother-in-law is the same way she hates wal-mart! I go every once in a while & we use their pharmacy b/c it's so cheap. However, I'd much rather go to a Target!
