If I could meet anyone for a day it would be Elisabeth Elliot. I just love her! I wish I could sit down with her and listen. Her books, The Shaping of a Christian Family, and Keep A Quiet Heart, have truly meant a lot to me. God used these two books for me to see what a Christian home meant for our family. She does not advocate a cookie-cutter perfect family. She advocates God's Word. And shows us how to put God's Word into practical daily life-like child-training and marriage. To me she is a wonderful picture of a Godly woman.
So, I am excited to share this book with you.
These Strange Ashes is the story of Elisabeth's first year as a missionary in the jungles of Ecuador. She went to the mission field deeply in love with Jim Elliot, but not knowing what the future held. This is some of the story of their romance, but it is really the story of the women she worked with and what their daily life was like.
This book has been read by me, but it is in good condition.

ReplyDeleteI would love to enter! She is one of my favorite authors and I have yet to read this book. Have you seen the movie about their time in the jungle and the murder of the missionaires? It is simply life changing. It is titled, "End of the Spear". Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great book!
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I have never read any EE books!! I am almost ashamed to say it. But then again, I don't read much....that book looks thin, maybe I could handle it=)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Elizabeth Eliot too - and haven't read one of her books in ages!! Did you get to go hear her years ago when she came to Briarwood? I did, and it was one of the best speaking events I've ever been to.
ReplyDeleteI met Elizabeth Elliott once. I heard her speak at Southern Seminary and even spoke very briefly to her. Since I don't have that title, I'll enter! :)
ReplyDeleteI follow you on Google Friend. :)
ReplyDeleteSomething good I'm reading? I just finished Radical by David Platt. I'm reading Voices of the Faithful II as a daily devotional besides my "Read the Bible in a Year" plan.
ReplyDeleteI also just received The Life Ready Woman last weekend, but haven't started it yet. And I received The Organized Homeschooler yesterday, but also haven't begun reading it yet, either.
Well, I tried to follow you but my computer kept doing weird things and it never would allow me to do it!! I'll try again later. For now, though, I would love for you to enter me for a chance to win the book. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Freddy and the Bean Home News by Walter R. Brooks to my kids right now. It's a great book! We're all enjoying it. It's about a pig who talks (and who lives on a farm full of other talking animals) who writes a newspaper. He belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Bean--hence the name of the paper.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this chance to win!
