Funny, Pretty, Happy, Real... (with an emphasis on the Real)

Do you see that nice picnic table at Tanneyhill State Park?  Our family sat there and ate lunch.  James walked by that spot 500 times going from the stream to us showing us all the things he had found.  My mom sat in a chair right by that table and we chit-chatted.  My dad's feet were inches RIGHT THERE as he ate delicious hot dogs and baked beans.  We were blissfully unaware.

Of this--a rattlesnake right under our feet.  A LIVE rattlesnake under our feet.

And he became a mad LIVE rattlesnake when the park rangers came and grabbed him with the snake tongs and his rattler went a rattling.  And then he became a DEAD rattlesnake when they park rangers ended his dangerous life.

So, to sum it up:

Pretty-nothing pretty about this
Happy-happy (and so thankful) that no one was hurt.  Our afternoon could have been very different.
Funny-nothing funny about this
Real-He's really dead.

Today I am linking up at Like Mother, Like Daughter.

  1. And that's exactly how Satan works too. He lays there quietly as we go about life blissfully unaware and then he strikes with deadly force. We have to be as spiritually prepared as that park ranger was with his knife!

  2. Hi MaMaHen! Oh my goodness! God really was in control of that situation! He kept that mean old snake from biting ya'll as you sat there unaware! And I agree with what Jill said. Boy, did that ever turn into a spiritual experience! Blessings from Bama!

  3. Oh, how scary! Thank God for his protection.

  4. Wow! Glad GOD was aware of the danger!

Thanks to Jill for the spiritual insight too!

  5. Oh my gosh, that would have scared me to death...

  6. Great Jill!
We had one under our porch a few years ago (with TWO dogs in the yard, that never even barked). I was very surprised that the rattler did not sound like I thought it would. It was more like crickets chirping in the evening---so much so that even when I was told to stand still and listen, I still didn;t get it.

  7. My favorite part of this post is that the snake is really dead! Praise the Lord!

  8. Oh, my word!! Thanks be to God!!! Guess you folks have been praisin' the Lord a lot since then. whew!
