The Sippy Cup, Revisited

Some of you may remember a post I wrote a couple of weeks ago about how much I disliked sippy cups. They are always getting lost and when you open them you never know what you are going to find. I had a love/hate relationship with them. Loved the neatness factor. Hated the mess. Yes, I confuse even myself sometimes.

Well, last night as we were walking out of the church I handed James his sippy cup. He told me, "I don't want a sippy cup. I am a big boy now and I need a real cup."

And a little piece of my heart died. It broke off, shattered and withered, onto the hard concrete. And I ached. As in, I thought I would start crying right then and there. The ache still hasn't gone away. When he woke up this morning I held him a little longer and tighter.

Ladies, find your kiddos now. Hug them. Look into their eyes and tell them you love them. Rock them and read them a book. You will NEVER regret the time you rocked your babies.

  1. I couldn't agree more...I've been there and yes, it made my heart ache.

This helped a little...Tupperware makes plastic cups with snap on lids you can slip a straw into. To them, it's "big kid" and to me, it still meant less chance of a spill...and it wasn't quite a big kid cup...yet.

  2. I have those Tupperware cups too and they are good. But they are truly authentic Tupperware, so you have to buy them from someone who sells it.

  4. My heart aches for you!
I have been sad this week b/c my daughter has started wearing some 18 months clothes that are hand me downs from her cousin and they make her look much more like a "big girl" than a baby :(

  5. My moment like that was arriving at my Mom's to pick up Ali after an overnight stay, and she was sitting in my Dad's recliner, sipping from a big girl cup WITH NO STRAW.

Like, as if, she was a big girl.

I don't know where my Mom thought she could go and grown-up my child like that, but she did.

    (sigh) :)
