Freezer Friday Report...

I got nothing.

Nothing but our meals were prepared this week.

And its a wonder they were prepared.  I am happy to say that we did not eat out, get take out, and all the meals were cooked from scratch. I did make some granola bars and today I made a peanut butter cake with frosting that should be ready to come out of the oven in just a minute. And all that on top of a somewhat rough week for me. Nothing bad, I just had to give myself some grace on some things and prioritize things around here.

At the beginning of the week I made up a 2 quarts of instant milk and used it all week for cooking and baking.  Today I made 2 more quarts. My kids drink a lot of milk and using the instant for things other than drinking helps out.

That's all.  How did things go in your kitchen this week?

  1. Hi MamaHen! That's a good idea mixing the dried milk for cooking! Your family is so fortunate to have so many wonderful from-scratch meals! They're so much better for them than take-out! Yummy, granola bars and a peanut butter cake! I understand about prioritizing! I've been trying to do more of that lately! And I had a good week in my kitchen! Hope you have a nice weekend! Blessings from Bama!

  2. I use dry milk for cooking as well. The ALDI store in my area is the cheapest source for dry milk. So much cheaper than regular milk, and when you're using it in cooking, who can tell?

  3. Dry milk is also fat free, if I am not mistaken. My Asians drink NO milk, none. But back in the day when I had 2 All-American teenagers, we went thru 4 gallons a week! I saved an old jug, and began pouring 1/4 gallon out of each new gallon, and replacing it with powdered milk. With 3/4 whole milk, the kids didn't even notice. I think I gradually worked up to 1/2 gallon powdered. A few dollars a week adds up! I recently read about a lady who bought whole milk and simply watered it down by 1/4th.
